The Wigley Group has evolved from its beginnings as an agricultural plant hire company to its present incarnation, developing, owning and managing commercial properties across both the Midlands region and the UK.

Wigley Contracts (Barby) Ltd was established as a construction plant hire and road building contractor by John Wigley in 1964.

1960 - 1970

The company enjoyed great success, expanding into large plant hire and undertaking civil engineering jobs throughout the 1960s before opening a fully-fledged fabrication unit in Barby in the early 1970s.

From there, the company diversified into many fields including the manufacturing of plant and specialist prison fencing before recognising the growing potential of the commercial property sector in the late 1970’s.

The company’s first foray was the purchase of Edgwick Park from Alfred Herbert, the world famous engineering company – followed by the creation of the nearby Godiva Trading Estate which, after winning planning consent, was sold by Wigley and developed into the Gallagher Retail Park.

In 2005 Robert Wigley followed in his father’s footsteps and became Managing Director of the firm.

The company has continued to create new markets in the industry with the establishment of Wigley Commercial Services in 2010 to provide a specialist range of professional services within the commercial property sector.

In 2011, James Davies, then Director of The Wigley Group, led a re-brand of the business to bring Wigley Contracts and Wigley Commercial Services together under The Wigley Group, operating from its previous headquarters at the Cobalt Centre at Middlemarch Business Park in Coventry.

In 2017, Wigley Building & Development was established. This new company is a merger with established main contractor Ciexbe Limited to strengthen The Wigley Group’s range of construction services.

Wigley Contracts (Barby) Ltd is now exclusively a property and development company with significant land holdings across the West Midlands, including Centrovell Trading Estate in Nuneaton and the Aston Expressway Business Park in Birmingham.

Now based at Stockton House in Warwickshire and with three strands to the business – commercial property, development and construction – The Wigley Group makes the perfect partner for investors, developers and commercial property agents.
